Living More Slowly And Simply

Simple living can save us money, help our mental health, and give us the time and space we need for mental clarity.

Without the distractions and stress brought upon us by too much technology, cluttered surroundings, processed foods, or endless noise, it can be easier to feel happy.

Let’s discuss how to live more slowly and simply.

Living More Slowly And Simply

What Is The Slow And Simple Lifestyle?

As our modern society gathers speed, slow living is making a comeback.

Slow living is a movement where people decide to live a more balanced, meaningful life by slowing things down and appreciating the world around them and what they have.

It can involve taking more time for self-care.

Simple living refers to the practices that promote simplicity in our lifestyles.

Common ways of simple living include reducing the number of possessions we own, depending less on technology and services, and spending less money.

What Happens When We Live Life Too Fast?

The quick pace lifestyle common today pushes us to move quickly, do more, live faster, have more friends, or hang out more often.

The results can be that we often find ourselves in a state of burnout or stress, we may develop mental health issues, or we may begin experiencing unhappiness.

Is It Ok To Live A Slow Life?

It’s understandable if we want to live life a little more slowly than the average person.

It doesn’t make us lazy at all, and it doesn’t mean we’re not creating a meaningful life or adding value to the world with our actions or work.

Does Life Speed Up As We Age?

There’s a reason why we may feel like the years moved slowly when we were kids but seem to zoom by now.

It’s believed that our perception of time greatly changes as we age, which makes certain periods feel like they go by quickly.

As we get older, we have fewer new experiences and the world around us becomes more familiar.

We basically become desensitized to our experiences, process less information, and time may seem to speed up because of this.

How Can We Live More Slowly?

  • Spend more time doing less.
  • Make space and time for what’s important.
  • Spend more time alone.
  • Learn to say no, cut down on your commitments at home and work.
  • Experience silence.
  • Cut out distractions.
  • Wake up early.
  • Change your routine.

How Can I Take My Life More Slowly?

  • Appreciate nature.
  • Eat slower.
  • Be present.
  • Disconnect.
  • Focus on people.
  • Drive slower.
  • Find pleasure in small things.

What Is The Secret To Slow Living?

One of the most important ways to begin slow living is to create daily habits that support rest rather than entertainment.

Make more time to get enough sleep every night and take a few minutes every morning to just breathe.

Reflect inwards by journaling or taking a short walk around your neighbourhood.

How Can I Live A Simple And Slow Life?

  • Minimize your things.
  • Start your day slowly.
  • Avoid multitasking.
  • Take your entire lunch break.
  • Appreciate silence.

How Can I Live A Calm And Happy Life?

  • Go outside every day.
  • Remove clutter and keep your space organized.
  • Avoid judgment.
  • Practice gratitude.
  • Spend quality time with loved ones.

How Do You Deal With Time Passing?

Work on your mindfulness.  Just focus on what you’re doing right now instead of worrying about what’s going to happen later.

Mindfulness can sound simple, but it takes practice for most people.

It’s natural to often think about the future, especially when upcoming possibilities can affect our life outcomes.

Final Thoughts

Although it may seem counter intuitive, try doing less.  It’s hard to slow down when we’re trying to do too many things.

Don’t worry about what everyone else is doing and focus on what you want.

If you’ve been caught up in comparisons for a while, it might take you some time and effort to figure out your own path to happiness.

  1. Good for you, it seems to come back in different forms when I do 🙂 … but I’ve been thinking of trying to become a bit of a minimalist in certain ways.

  2. Well said. In many ways, living more slowly does make our lives and whatever activities and tasks that we do more meaningful and fulfilling. This occurs because we’re taking more time and are prioritizing what we do, thus, we’re able to appreciate and cherish it more.
