Spring is the season of renewal, longer days, blooming flowers, and that undeniable urge to shake off the winter blues and try something new.
Maybe you’re itching to spend more time outside, or just looking for a creative outlet.
Either way, it can be a great time of year to pick up a fresh hobby.
Let’s discuss a few spring-friendly hobbies that can bring a little joy, mindfulness, and sunshine into your life.
Spring Hobbies to Try This Season
Gardening
Maybe you’ve got a backyard, or even if it’s just your indoor windowsill, gardening is rewarding and therapeutic.
Start simple with herbs like basil or mint which are easy to grow, and container gardens work well on balconies or porches.
You can end up with your very own homegrown veggies, or fresh flowers.
Nature Photography
The world around us bursts into colour in spring, making it a dream for aspiring photographers.
Grab your phone or camera, head to a local park or trail, and try capturing budding trees, birds, or anything that looks interesting. Experiment with different types of photos.
Hiking and Nature Walks
Cool breezes, birds chirping, and trails drying out after winter mean it’s time to lace up your shoes and explore. Hiking is one of my favourite free pastimes, and it’s an awesome way to stay active and re-connect with nature.
Picnicking
Why eat inside when you can spread out a blanket under a tree and have a mini feast? Spring picnics can be super low-key affairs, or you could go all-out and make them Instagram-worthy.
Keep safety in mind, but you could also bring some matches along for an impromptu cook-out over a small bonfire. Just remember to check the by-laws in your area and clean up after.

Outdoor Painting or Sketching
Bring a sketchbook or small paint set outside and just start doodling what you see. Flowers, buildings, people, everything looks a little more magical in the spring light. You might find yourself getting inspired by what you come across.
Yoga in the Park
Practicing Yoga outside adds a whole new layer of calmness. You can find outdoor classes in many cities or just roll out a mat in your backyard and go at your own pace.
Birdwatching
Grab some binoculars and a bird ID book or app. Spring migration brings about a parade of colourful species back north, if that’s the geographic area you find yourself in.
Even if you’re just watching from your window, you may be surprised how many feathered visitors you can spot. We often see cardinals around my area in the spring, they’re really cool to check out and also quite hard to miss with their bright red feathers.
Seasonal Cooking or Baking
Spring brings fresh asparagus, peas, rhubarb, and strawberries. Try cooking with ingredients that are in season. Think bright salads, light pasta dishes, or look up an interesting strawberry dessert you could try making.

Final Thoughts
Spring can be all about starting fresh. The season practically begs us to get outside, get creative, and get inspired.
Is there something I’ve missed, or some hobby you’ve tried in recent years that you’re so glad you did?
