Knowing Yourself

Self-knowledge means understanding our own sensations, thoughts, beliefs, values, and behaviours.

It’s about knowing what makes us tick, why we get out of bed in the morning, and what we value in relationships.

Examining ourselves requires constant self-awareness and self-consciousness.

Let’s talk about knowing yourself.

Knowing Yourself

Why Is Knowing The Self Important?

When we’re more self-aware, we’re better at understanding ourselves.

We’re then able to identify changes we want to make and recognize our strengths so that we can build on them.

Self-awareness can often be the first step to goal setting. That includes admitting when we don’t have the answer and owning up to our mistakes.

What Is The Key In Knowing Our Inner Self?

To know our inner self is to know our purpose, our values, our visions, our motivations, our goals and our beliefs.

Not as what we’ve been told by others, but what we’ve discovered for ourselves. Knowing our inner self requires a high level of introspection and self-awareness.

What Is The Power Of Knowing Yourself?

Knowing ourselves lets us live the life we truly want.  Where we know who we are, what we want, and what brings out the best in us.

If we don’t have a full understanding of who we are, we’ll continue to make decisions against our true self.

How Do We Start Knowing Ourselves?

  • Ask yourself questions.
  • Identify what you value about yourself.
  • Keep a journal.
  • Visualize your ideal self.
  • Explore your passions.
  • Try new things.
  • Evaluate your skills.
  • Learn something new.

Why Do I Have A Hard Time Knowing Myself?

There can be several reasons why we feel like we don’t know ourselves.

We may not know who we are because we may not be fully aware of our values, beliefs, behaviours, or thoughts.

Maybe we’re not paying attention to how we feel, what we’re thinking, what we’re saying, or how we’re acting.

How Do I Unlock My Inner Self?

  • Set a routine.
  • Learn who you are.
  • Spend time in silence.
  • Gain control of your body.
  • Be mindful.
  • Eliminate negative self-talk.
  • Express yourself.
  • Have fun.
  • Simplify your life.
  • Give thanks.

What Are The Benefits Of Knowing Yourself?

Some benefits of developing self-awareness include being better able to manage and regulate your emotions.

We may also see better communication, better decision-making skills, and improved relationships.

What Is A High Level Of Self-Awareness?

When we’re highly self-aware, we can objectively evaluate ourselves, manage our emotions, align our behaviour with our values, and understand correctly how others perceive us.

Those that are highly self-aware can interpret their actions, feelings, and thoughts objectively.

Final Thoughts

Through cultivating self-awareness, stepping outside of our comfort zone and acting on our intuition, we can learn to access our inner wisdom and align with our values and goals.

Focus on your inner self to boost your mood.  There’s no better time for self-exploration than the present.

  2. Thank you. That’s great, glad you are getting that out of it. I have to start, even just a few sentences maybe to get me going, maybe some points of gratitude and how I’m feeling. Any tips? I wrote a post about it last month and said I would try to start.

  3. I think the main thing is to just force yourself to start, once you start it becomes easier. It’s tough the first few days and you may feel like you have nothing to write but it gets better and you start to really connect deeper over time.
