Why Believing in Yourself is Important

My daily life keeps feeding me blog ideas, and now I can’t turn it off.

I guess that’s good, because today’s topic is important for a lot of reasons, but also therapeutic for me to write!

Believing in yourself, or having self-confidence if you will, can form a solid foundation for you to take the next step along your life’s path. Whether in your financial, material life or even if you aspire to achieving higher spiritual development, having self-trust or believing in yourself can make all the difference.

Some come by it naturally, and some need to work a bit harder to achieve a semblance of feeling more self-confident.

Self-confidence means having a positive attitude about your abilities, qualities, and general judgment. Self-trust is having the faith that you can rely on yourself.

Why Believing in Yourself is Important

When we believe in ourselves, one can say it ignites a psychological process that can help us achieve our goals, manifest our dreams into reality, and increase our well-being.

How Do You Start Believing in Yourself?

Ways to Start Believing in Yourself:

  • Be realistic about any goals.
  • Surround yourself with positivity.
  • Acknowledge your accomplishments.
  • Don’t be afraid to speak your mind.
  • Acknowledge your passions.
  • Take care of yourself.

How Do You Trust and Believe in Yourself?

  • Don’t compare yourself to others.
  • Trust yourself to make good decisions.
  • Don’t worry about the opinion of others.
  • Let yourself make mistakes.
  • Limit exposure to toxic people.
  • Understand and rationalize your fears.

Why is it so Hard for Me to Believe in Myself?

One of the most common reasons is that we may have low self-esteem. The reasons we have low self-esteem could be varied, and they may or may not have anything to do with anyone else, or even our history.

You can work on boosting self-esteem which will lead to believing in yourself more.

How Do You Overcome Self-Doubt?

How to Overcome Fear and Self-Doubt:
  • Practice self-compassion.
  • Think back to past achievements.
  • Try not to compare yourself to others.
  • Spend your time with supportive people.
  • Seek professional help.
  • Keep a journal.
  • Be skeptical of your thoughts.

What Does “Fake it Until You Make it” Mean?

“Fake it until you make it” means to consciously cultivate an attitude, feeling, and perception of competence that you don’t currently have, by pretending you do until it becomes true.

Research shows that pretending to just act more extroverted can increase some aspects of well-being like connectedness and bring positive emotions.

Can You “Fake it Until You Make it” With Happiness?

Do you know that the act of smiling will elevate your mood and replace some sadness with joy? Evidence shows that it’s that simple to make yourself a little bit happier in the moment.

Final Thoughts

When you’re experiencing fear, doubt, and engaging in self-sabotaging behaviour, success will feel out of your grasp. All of the skills and training in the world won’t change your life.

When you believe in yourself, you can overcome any self-doubt and have the confidence to take positive action and get things accomplished.

For myself, earlier this year I wasn’t sure if I could start a health and wellness blog.  I have a psychology background, but was far from an expert.

As for me being an expert on happiness? Let’s just say some people that have known me throughout my life might get a chuckle out of that one.

But I realized that I had enough life experience and research skills to make a go of it, and who cares what anyone else thinks anyway. I started this for myself just as much as any audience.

I’ve gained insights into happiness already that I hadn’t previously considered. For me, taking care of our brain chemistry has shown to be just as important for our happiness as anything that a “joyful” external event could ever do for us.

In essence, it’s us that need to take responsibility for our own happiness and self-confidence and let everything else fall into place thereafter as it may.

Let me know your thoughts about overcoming your self-doubt, thanks for reading.
