Why Do We Fall Out Of Love?

The passionate months and years of first love don’t always stay around.

Relationships change and evolve over time and that’s totally normal. But sometimes couples can fall out of love too.

Why Do We Fall Out Of Love?

Is It Normal To Suddenly Fall Out Of Love?

It’s very natural and there can be many reasons why your loving feelings towards someone can change and the love diminishes, even though you once felt so deeply passionate about the person.

Why Do People Fall Out Of Love?

Communication issues and unrealistic expectations are often two of the main reasons people find themselves falling out of love.

But there are some things that can be done to stop the fall. Relationships can be hard work, and they should be viewed as investments, particularly if there is a marriage involved.

Some of the other key reasons why people fall out of love is that they don’t feel appreciated, respected, or valued in their relationship.

For example, if your partner no longer compliments you, shows any gratitude, or even acknowledges your accomplishments or work, it can be hard to feel truly loved.

Is Love A Choice Or A Feeling?

Love can be both a matter of choice and a strong feeling.

While feelings may change over time, love is more stable. Even if you don’t feel the same way you once felt about someone at the beginning of a relationship, you can choose to stay with them even in the more difficult or boring times.

Can You Fall Out Of Love Without A Reason?

Many times, it’s no one’s fault. Love can disappear slowly over time or suddenly after a traumatic event.

Partners may also confuse infatuation for love, so they assume the romance is done as soon as things begin to cool. The truth of the matter is, people fall out of love for any number of reasons.

How Does Someone Act When They Fall Out Of Love?

Besides no longer getting excited to spend time together, you could find yourself avoiding your partner.

You might stay late at work, see movies or eat dinner by yourself, or even take the long way home to avoid being with your partner for a moment longer than you have to.

Am I In Love Or Infatuated?

Infatuation is often a fantasy-based, passionate longing for someone. It can often prevent you from acknowledging their weaknesses, and may even land you in an unhealthy situation.

Love, on the other hand, is often based in reality and is fed on closeness and knowledge of the other person.

Am I In Love Or Attached?

Love usually evokes fond feelings and actions toward the other person. Attachment is often driven by how you feel about yourself with the degree of permanence and safety someone gives you, sometimes based on your past relationships.

Can You Love Someone And Be Obsessed With Them?

Obsessive love can often cause a person to fixate on their loved one as though they are an object or possession.

This may have many causes, ranging from mental health issues to delusional disorders. Health professionals don’t widely recognize obsessive love as a mental health condition.

What Are The Signs Of Forcing A Relationship?

  • You don’t trust them.
  • You’re hoping some things about them will change.
  • You must pretend to be interested, or vice versa.
  • You want a relationship more than you want the person.
  • The relationship doesn’t recover from arguments.

What Are The Signs A Relationship Is Coming To An End?

There’s no more emotional connection. One of the key signs your relationship is ending is that you are no longer being vulnerable and open with your partner.

A cornerstone of happy, healthy relationships is that both partners feel comfortable being open to sharing thoughts and opinions with one another.

What Are The Signs Of A Bad Relationship?

  • Control.
  • Dependence.
  • Digital monitoring.
  • Dishonesty.
  • Disrespect.
  • Hostility.
  • Harassment.
  • Intimidation.

How Do You Know It’s Obsession And Not Love?

  • Threatened by independence.
  • Boundaries are ignored.
  • Very controlling behaviour.
  • Blocking out others.
  • Moving too fast in the relationship.
  • Demanding constant contact.
  • Tracking without consent.

What Usually Ends A Relationship?

Some of the most common reasons people say they fall out of love are a loss of physical intimacy, a loss of trust, a loss of feeling loved, and emotional pain, often driven by grief over feeling lonely. Other reasons include a lack of respect, and differences in priorities.

Can Lost Feelings Come Back?

Sometimes, yes. Even if your relationship has been stale for years, if both of you are willing to work things out despite losing feelings for each other, it could eventually come back. Although feelings of “love” come and go, true love can remain intact.

What’s The Most Common Relationship Problems?

Money is also one of the most common issues that causes conflict in a relationship. Whether it’s having different financial resources, different views about the importance of money, or different spending habits, money issues can cause major tension in a relationship.

Final Thoughts

I’m writing this as a single person that’s been both dumper and dumpee in past relationships.

Both are uncomfortable, but there’s no denying the extra sting from a stark dumping you were too blind to see coming up over the horizon!

In many cases, our sudden loss of interest in our partner could be the result of our discovering we both have different values or goals. When we feel this way, we may want to talk to our partner about it first, and then decide whether we still want to stay in the relationship.
