Feeling Better When Sick

Unfortunately, there’s no way to get rid of a cold fast.

A cold will normally go away on its own after several days, even without treatment.

But fortunately, there are some steps we can take to help our recovery, like getting plenty of rest.

Let’s discuss how to feel better when sick.

Feeling Better When Sick

Is It Bad To Lay In Bed All Day When Sick?

As long as we wake up to drink water and eat nourishing food from time to time, it’s good to let our body get all the rest it needs.

If we sleep most of the day when we’re sick, especially during the first days of our illness, don’t worry that’s our body telling us it’s time to rest and heal.

How Do You Comfort Yourself When Sick?

We can indulge in some sick day self-care.

Just relax, catch up on your favourite show, or put on a movie you’ve been meaning to watch.

Try a podcast you can listen to with your eyes closed.

Take a hot bath or shower, the warm water will relax you, and the steam can soothe raw and congested nasal passages.

What Should I Eat When Sick?

Although it’s not very exciting, plain, and bland foods can help ease symptoms.

Try eating pasta, oatmeal, bread, or crackers.

Add some protein or veggies into the mix if you feel up to it.  Try eating rice with baked chicken breast or just cheese and crackers.

What’s The Easiest Thing To Eat When Sick?

  • Bland foods.
  • Vegetables.
  • Fruit.
  • Eggs.
  • Decaffeinated tea.
  • Lean meat such as chicken or fish.
  • Pudding.
  • Soups.

What Not To Do When Sick?

  • Sleep too little.
  • Drink too little.
  • Drink alcohol.
  • Get stressed.
  • Overuse decongestant sprays.
  • Smoke.

What Is The Best Breakfast When Sick?

Oatmeal is easy, and usually gentle on the stomach. Try eating just toast with egg whites, drinking some bone broth, or having a smoothie if you think you can tolerate it.

Keep it simple, don’t force it if you feel like you can’t even look at food.

What Should I Eat When I have A Sore Throat?

  • Warm, cooked pasta.
  • Warm oatmeal.
  • Cooked vegetables.
  • Fruit or vegetable smoothies.
  • Mashed potatoes.
  • Broth or cream-based soups.

What Else Helps A Sore Throat?

It’s very important to stay hydrated, even though it may hurt to drink.

Drink water, tea, broth, soup, and non-caffeinated sports drinks, such as Gatorade. Hot tea with lemon and honey can help. Try gargling with warm salt-water.

What Soup Is Best For A Sore Throat?

Chicken soup is a well-known soup to help a sore throat.

The broth in chicken soup soothes and helps inhibit the movement of white blood cells called neutrophils, which help the immune system fight infection.

The hot fluid promotes movement of nasal mucus and keeps us hydrated, while the salt helps our tissues retain fluids.

How Long Does A Cold Last?

For adults and older children, a cold usually lasts about 7 to 10 days, but may sometimes linger longer.

A persistent cough can sometimes last for two or three weeks.

Colds may tend to last longer in younger children who are under five, often lasting around 10 to 14 days.

What Herb Kills A Cold?

Some herbs are better suited to relieving cold and flu symptoms like coughs, sore throats or congestion.

Notable examples include catnip, cayenne, echinacea, garlic, ginger, peppermint, rosemary, and thyme.

What Are The Best Natural Cold Cures?

  • Sleep.
  • Vitamin C.
  • Honey and tea.
  • Chicken soup.
  • Aromatherapy.
  • A steamy shower.
  • Gargling warm salt water.

What Is The Best Drink For A Cough?

Keep hydrated with water, juice, clear broth or warm lemon water with honey.

Avoid caffeine and alcohol, which can dehydrate.

As mentioned, chicken soup along with other warm fluids, such as warm apple juice or tea, can be soothing and loosen congestion.

What’s The Best Thing To Eat When Nauseous?

If you’re feeling nauseous, try following the BRAT diet, which includes bananas, rice, apples and toast.

It may not have as many nutrients as other food options, but it’s easier on the stomach. And if you’re having trouble keeping food down, this is the way to go.
